The fab four began to break apart.

It all started when Veronica witnessed a stolen kiss between Logan and the new girl, Yolanda. Being Lilly’s best friend, Veronica had no recourse, but to tell her what she had seen.

The next day, Lilly was in a snit. She renounced any friendship between her and Yolanda and had broken up with Logan, forcing Veronica to do the same. Lilly held on to her resentfulness toward Logan for about a day and then turned her attention to more enjoyable pursuits. They’d spent a girls’ weekend away in San Diego enjoying the crazy angry bands and sailor brawls.

When they got back, Duncan began to ignore Veronica.

“Yesterday you said we were made for each other,” Veronica said.

“I don’t… I really don’t want to be in the middle of this,” Lilly laughed uncomfortably.

“What is ‘this’?” she demanded.

“I just think that maybe you should just move on.”

“What?” Veronica said incredulously.

“I can think of a half dozen guys off the top of my head that would be a better match for you than Duncan.”

She looked at her best friend suspiciously. “What did he say to you? Did I do something?”

“No, it’s not you.” Lilly rushed to placate her, “It’s just… I – he needs some time alone for awhile.”

“What is so horrible that you can’t tell me?”

Lilly looked at her seriously. “Can you trust me? It’s for the best, Veronica. I know that it doesn’t seem like it right now, but it is! You deserve better.”

Veronica closed her eyes in pain and then spun around. She ran to the girls’ bathroom, bringing her hand up to muffle her sobs. She locked herself in a stall and cried.

“Veronica,” Lilly asked softly, “don’t do this. My brother of all people doesn’t deserve this.” She sighed, “I mean, he didn’t even have the heart to tell you that he was breaking up with you. Just forget about him. You can do so much better.”

Sniffling, she asked, “Lilly? Could you just give me a few minutes alone?”

“Yeah,” she said, resigned. “I’ll see you at lunch?”

“Yeah,” Veronica replied softly.

Lilly placed her hand on the stall door, fleeting hoping that her best friend would be okay. “Just you wait, Veronica Mars. Everything will be so much better.”

She listened as the door closed. Taking a deep, cleansing breath, Veronica grabbed some toilet paper and dabbed at her tears. She checked her face in her compact and was about to leave the stall when she heard someone enter.

“I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.”

Curiously, Veronica listened to their conversation.

“I know.”

“I mean, of all the girls in the school Duncan could have gone out with, Veronica Mars?” The girl snorted, “I mean, how insane is that?”

“He’s out of his mind, that’s for sure. She really got her claws into him.”

“You know, I actually sort of feel sorry for the guy. I mean, you know all she’s after is his money.”

“No, I mean, he’s literally crazy. Like loony bin crazy.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Well, you know how Brian's brother is a resident at the hospital? Brian told Ashley that last week Duncan was brought in kicking and screaming, foaming at the mouth, calling out Veronica's name. It took like three orderlies to get him in a straight jacket.”

Veronica couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Come on.”

“That’s what I heard.”

Flushing the toilet, Veronica stepped out of the stall with a cold expression on her face. She ignored the girls as they saw her, heading straight for the sink to wash her hands. She said blandly, “Carrie Bishop and Susan Knight. Go figure.”

Susan had the decency to look uncomfortable. Carrie just looked at her boldly.

Veronica returned Carrie’s gaze. “You should warn you friend about the dangers of sleeping with a teacher. I’m sure she’d never live it down.”

The brunette looked at her startled. “What are you talking about?”

Veronica gave Susan a once over. “I’d just be careful about the gossip you spew. Some people could really be hurt by it.”

Susan looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

Scoffing, Carrie said, “I’m not doing anything wrong. I’m just telling the truth.”

“Then I guess you and Susan won’t mind if I tell some truths too.” Veronica smiled perkily and then made to leave.

“Wait!” Susan cried, “You can’t tell anyone.”

“Then I’d suggest you be careful about the stuff your friend here tells people.” Without giving them another glance, she left.

Lilly scanned the quad at lunch looking for future prospects. Any one of these guys would be willing to date her girl, V, but none of them were really worthy. She’d only tolerated her own brother dating Veronica because then they would have been sisters. Now that she knew that they were in fact already sisters, Lilly didn’t need to see Veronica with her loser brother anymore.

Surveying the boys, she knew her pickings were slim, until her gaze landed on the boy that sat directly in front of him. She perked up suddenly. “Of course.”

Veronica looked at her curiously, “Of course, what?”

She gave her an innocent look. “Nothing.” She turned her attention to Logan, “Can we use your pool this afternoon?”

Logan looked behind him, then back at her. “You’re talking to me?” he asked snidely.

Lilly rolled her eyes. “Who else?”

“Use your own pool.”

Her eyes narrowed, “You owe me.”

He sneered, “I’m not your lapdog this week, Lilly.”

Trying a different tactic, Lilly gave him a sultry smile, “I’ll make it worth your while.”

Giving her a considering look, he smirked, “Fine.”

Veronica parked her car in the Echolls’ driveway. She went around the back of the house, because she knew Logan’s parents were still on their trip to Nepal. She stopped by the pool house knowing that she would find Logan there. She knocked lightly on the door, “Hey.”

“Well, if it isn’t Veronica Mars,” Logan smirked, “the big mouth that ratted me out to Lilly.”

Veronica apologized, “I didn’t really expect Lilly to react like that. I thought she’d just use it as more ammunition against you.”

He snorted, “And on any regular day that would probably be true, but Lilly’s found another man to occupy her time.”

Veronica shook her head. “Of course not. You two just broke up.”

“And when has that stopped her?”

She knew he was right. The on-again, off-again couple were constantly breaking up and Lilly would find someone new to spend time with until she got bored and went back to Logan. They’d be all lovey-dovey for awhile, but it never lasted. Veronica wondered sometimes if Logan was too romantic for Lilly. She’d found some of the things he’d done extremely sweet, but Lilly would gag while telling Veronica of them. Of course, no one would believe that smart mouth, jackass Logan could be romantic, but she knew it was true.

Resigned, she nodded her agreement.

“Where is Lilly anyway?” Logan asked.

“She went home to grab her swimsuit. She said she’d meet me here.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Whose idea was it to use my pool anyway?”

“What’s wrong with the Kane pool?”

She looked down at her hands. “She didn’t want me to be uncomfortable.”

“Right,” he said softly. “Duncan.”

He gestured toward the bathroom. “You can go change in there. The servants pumped up the loungers if you want to use those.”

“Are you going to swim with us?” she asked curiously, looking at him dressed in his street clothes.

He smirked, “I’m not exactly dressed for the occasion.”

“When has that stopped you?” she smiled mischievously.

“Watch it, Mars, I might get the wrong idea,” he teased.

“I’m sure Lilly wouldn’t mind seeing you naked.” She headed toward the bathroom.

“That’s because I’m a fine specimen of a man.” Logan said conceitedly.

Veronica gave him a slow once over and smirked, “I’d have to agree.” She closed the door behind her before Logan could respond.

He gapped at the closed door. Taking a minute to recover, a smile slowly spread across his face.

Logan was testing the temperature of the pool when Veronica stepped out of the pool house. He asked, annoyed, “Did Lilly go shopping for a new swimsuit or something? What the hell is taking her so long?” He finally looked up at her and he almost swallowed his tongue.

Clad in pale blue, her bikini top tied at the back of her neck and at her mid back, and her bottom tied together at her hips. Her long blond hair was done up in pigtails that hung over her shoulders and she had big sunglasses covering her eyes. She shrugged at him, “I have no idea. I thought she’d be here before me.” Walking over to him, she held a bottle of sun screen to him, “Would you mind doing my back?”

Recovering from his shock at seeing her so skimpily clad, he took the bottle. “What happened to your one piece?” Logan asked, trying to act casual. For as long as he’d known Veronica, she had always worn a one piece swimsuit.

She frowned, “Lilly cut it up when I wasn’t looking. She left me with this.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Why didn’t you buy a new one?”

“I haven’t had time.” She shrugged, “Anyway, it’s not like I’m wearing it in public. It’s just you and Lilly.”

“What am I? Chopped liver?”

“Please, Logan, you treat me like your little sister...or an annoying puppy.” She turned so that her back was to him, waiting for him to put the lotion on her.

“Definitely not my little sister,” he muttered under his breath as he poured the lotion in his hands. Rubbing his hands together, he smoothed the white liquid over her shoulders and down her back. Smirking, he pulled the knot at her mid back loose.

“Logan!” she shrieked, bring her hands up to hold her bikini against her.

He said innocently, “You want your whole back covered, don’t you?” His hands continued to spread the lotion down her back, caressingly. Deliberately pouring too much, he spread his hands up her sides, accidentally on purpose grazing the sides of her breasts and then around her stomach. He felt her intake of breath at the slight caress, smiling as he retied her bikini. “There you go. All set.”

Checking the knot that he’d made, she turned to face him, smiling. “Thanks.” She grabbed the floating lounger and went to bask in the pool. “Call Lilly, would you? See what’s keeping her?”

Logan waited patiently for Lilly to pick up her phone.

“Hello, lover,” Lilly answered.

“Where are you?” he asked, exasperated.

“I’m gonna be a little late,” she pouted. “I’ve been held up.”

“Doing what?” he asked suspiciously.

She moaned suddenly. “Oh, I think you know.”

He grinned, shaking his head. “You’re a real bitch, you know that, Lilly?”

“Come on, lover, you must have known. You probably knew even before you made this call.”

“You owe me,” Logan reminded.

“And I’ve provided you with a sexy, little blond.” She gasped over the line. “You’re not too dense to take advantage of the opportunity, are you?”

“She’s your best friend.”

“And I only want the best for her.”

“She’s Duncan’s girlfriend.”

“Ex-girlfriend.” She groaned. “My idiot brother dumped her, remember.”

Logan was silent for a moment. “I can’t believe I’m even considering this.”

“I’ve seen you look at her.” Lilly panted. “It was one of the many reasons why I kept breaking up with you. You looked at her like she was something special, someone to take care of. Admit it. You’ve always had a soft spot for her in your heart.”

He didn’t respond.

“Fine, don’t admit it. Take care, lover. You know that any guy at school would give their right hand to be with her. You might miss your chance.”

“So I guess this means we’re over for good, huh?” he said bitterly.

She let out a small whimper. “We were never good for each other, lover. You know that.”

“Yeah, I guess I did.”

“Don’t be stupid like dear Donut was. Don’t let her go.”

Veronica had turned over on to her front to tan her back. She had undone the ties of her bikini top so she wouldn’t get tan lines. She laid their peacefully. For the first time in days, she was relaxed and not dwelling on Duncan. Veronica sighed in pleasure. When she heard the splash of water from the deep end of the pool, she assumed that Logan had joined her. She could feel the water slowly pushing her lounge towards the shallow end of the pool and opened her eyes expecting to see him swimming towards her.

He surfaced by her head. The water dripping off his hair, down his well muscled body to rejoin the water pooling around his waist.

“When is Lilly coming?”

“Couple hours.”

She noticed the dark expression on his face. “What is she doing?”

“Having sex with some guy.”

“What?” she said in shock, sitting up.

He shrugged, his eyes darkening. “She was in the middle of having sex when she picked up the phone.”

“She told you that?”

“I could tell.”

Veronica couldn’t believe that Lilly would answer the phone while she was… while she was… doing… that. She studied Logan. “You don’t seem very surprised… or hurt.”

“She’s done it before. Once she even called me so that I could listen.” His eyes danced around not quite meeting hers. “It was like a train wreck.”

“You couldn’t help but look,” she said softly, painfully.

“But in that case, it was I couldn’t help but listen. I could have hung up, but I didn’t. I listened until I heard her call out his name.”

His eyes finally met hers. “I beat the guy up later. I’m sure Lilly got a good laugh out of it.”

“Are you okay?” she asked him worriedly.

“Lilly and I are over,” he said simply.

“How can you just be okay with it?” she asked, wanting to know how she could get over Duncan.

“I have this great distraction,” he smirked.

“What?” She suddenly noticed that his eyes weren’t meeting hers because they were focused on her breasts. Her breasts that were left bare when she sat up. Her arms quickly came up to cover herself, but Logan had wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into the water. “Logan!”

He held her against him, mashing her naked breasts against his bare chest. His mouth came down on hers before she could mutter a word of protest. Talent lips grazed over hers, coaxing her into submission. When her mouth fell open in a gasp, his tongue swept inside tasting all of her.

Veronica brought her arms up around his shoulders, losing herself in their embrace, until rational thought broke through. Pulling away, she looked at him in confusion. “What about Lilly?”

“She found someone else.” He kissed her quickly, trying to distract her with his lips.

She pulled away again. “We can’t do this. She’ll kill us.”

“I’m pretty sure she’ll fill this pool with champagne for us. She’s asked me several times to do exactly what I’m doing to you.”

She looked at him in disbelief.

“‘Logan, can you kiss Veronica? She needs to know what it’s like to kiss a real man.’” He mimicked, “‘Logan, can you fuck her? She’s too innocent. Maybe a good fuck will bring her out of her shell.’”

“You expect me to believe that Lilly didn’t mind sharing you with other girls?”

“She didn’t mind sharing me with you,” he corrected.

Veronica could believe that. Lilly had offered to lend Logan to her. She’d go on and on about how talented he was just to see Veronica blush.

Seeing that she wasn’t objecting further, Logan took her lips again.

“We can’t do this.” Veronica tried to push him away.

He pulled her against him so that she could feel how hard he was. “I’m not just doing this because Lilly told me to. I want you, Veronica Mars. I’ve wanted you since I first saw you in your soccer uniform.”

“I was twelve,” she protested.

“I’ve wanted you all this time. Even when you were Duncan’s girlfriend. Even when I was with Lilly. I’ve had so many fantasies about you that I started imagining I was with you while I was fucking Lilly.”

“I want you,” he said seriously. His eyes were dark with lust.

She gasped when he pressed more firmly into her. She suddenly realized that he was completely nude. She shivered at the thought that only one thin piece of fabric was separating them. “Logan,” she whimpered.

He spun her around, pressing her against the side of the pool. Quick hands pulled the ties keeping her bikini bottom on, his nimble fingers seeking her core. He whispered harshly against her ear, “I know you want me, Ronnie. I’ve caught you watching me.” He slipped his fingers inside her. “Did all of Lilly’s stories make you hot for me?” He slowly withdrew his fingers only to pushed them back in. “Did she tell you how I’d go down on her?” He developed a slow, deep rhythm of thrust and withdraw. “How I’d make her come dozens of times before I’d bury myself inside her?” His other hand pinched her clit. “That’s when she’d really go wild.”

Veronica pulled her legs up to wrap around his waist. She moaned when he trailed deep, open mouth kisses down the side of her face, down her neck, to end on her nipple. His tongue rolled the pebbled nub in his mouth, drawing it in as he sucked. His free arm came up to support her back as he continued to finger her. He could feel her body beginning to tense, her sheath beginning to clench around his fingers. Not wanting her release to come so soon, he pulled his fingers away and diverted his concentration to her nipples. He smirked around her when he heard her whimper at the lose of his presence inside her.

Her arms that had been gripping his shoulders up until now fell from him. One wandering hand smoothed down his hard chest, feeling the ridges that defined his muscular abs. The other slid down to grip his strong arm. She could feel the warmth pooled in her belly and the tension that was filling her body. Veronica wanted his fingers back inside her. Tightening her legs around him, she rubbed herself against him, trying to gain the friction necessary to push her over the edge.

Succumbing to her silent request, Logan released her nipple from his mouth and inserted his fingers back inside her. He watched her face as he manipulated his fingers inside her, pressing and scraping against her inner walls, until he saw her eyes close, her mouth drop open in a silent cry and her head fall back in ecstasy.

Logan’s hands pulled her face in for a deep kiss. His hand at the nap of her neck, the other tugging on one of her pigtails.

Unconsciously, she began to grind against him, begging him to take her.

Not one to pass up on an opportunity, Logan kissed his way up to her ear, where he bit sharply as he thrust inside her. Embedded inside her, he held still while she adjusted to his thick, long presence. His tongue whirling around her earlobe to sooth his sharp bite.

She leaned into him, panting. “Why did you bite me?” Veronica complained.

“I was trying to distract you,” he admitted sheepishly. “You were too focused on the pain in your ear to notice when I popped your cherry.”

“Well, it worked,” she pouted, rubbing her sore ear gently.

He kissed her ear. “Can you feel me inside you?”

She blushed, “Kind of hard not to notice.”

“Can you feel me stretching you? Filling you?” he murmured.

She nodded against his neck.

“Does it still hurt?” he asked pensively.

She shook her head. “You feel so big. I’m surprised you fit.”

“I’ll fit eventually.”

“What?” Her question was cut off when he pressed himself to the hilt inside her. She lost her breath when she felt how deeply he actually went. She could feel herself approaching her climax by the simple act of him entering her fully. She whispered into his neck, “Just how big are you?”

He chuckled, “That’s it. I’m in.”

“Good, because I don’t think I could take anymore.”

He kissed her forehead. “It’s a perfect fit.” He groaned, “God, you’re so tight.” He began to draw back, then slowly plunge in. As he felt her adapt to him, little by little he quickened his pace, until he was driving into her fast and hard.

The water lapped around them, skimming passed their bodies, cooling them, yet tickling them to further delight as their embrace sped up. Gradually, he lost his footing on the pool floor and they slowly headed toward the deep end.

Her whimpers and moans incited him and he was close to the edge when he reached between them and pinched her clit. Her pulsing walls pushed him closer to the edge, but he held on as she slumped against him, replete.

Logan continued to thrust up into her, his hands on her hips pulling her down to meet him. Six deep thrusts and he buried himself within her as he came. In his rapture, his feet slipped and they sunk into the water. It took him a few seconds to dragged them up out of the water, sputtering and headed towards the shallow end. He slumped down on the steps. Veronica draped over him.

They panted, slowly regaining their breath. Logan raised his head and kissed her softly. The simple kiss heated up quickly. He rolled her over so that he was on top.

Veronica watched him as he withdrew from her. His head lowered to kissed her breasts, then her belly. She giggled when his tongue swirled inside her belly button. Veronica’s eyes widened when she realized what he was doing. Planting her hands firmly on his shoulders, she tried to push him away, but he just swatted her hands away and spread her legs. His mouth delved down between her legs, his tongue sweeping out to lave at her.

“You weren’t serious about the dozen orgasms, were you?” she panted. She didn’t think she’d survive so much stimulation.

Logan simply laughed and continued his ministrations.

Dark had fallen and Logan and Veronica were lying languidly on a lawn chair. Veronica had tied her bikini back on after Logan had fished the bottom out of the pool. He had slipped his trunks on.

Logan was running his fingers lightly down her bare arm, as he stared up into the night sky. Veronica enjoyed being surrounded by his warmth, his body cushioning hers, his strong arm wrapped around her middle. She sighed in delight.

“Are you free this weekend?” Logan suddenly asked.

“No,” she pouted. “I’m volunteering at the car wash for pep squad.”

“That’s only Friday. You’ll be done before dinner, right?”

“I guess,” she smiled, “why?”

“I want to take you on a date.”

“A date?”

“You’re my girlfriend. I want to take you out on a date. Dinner and a movie?” he said cutely.

She turned over, smiling at him. “I’d like that.”

“So Friday? Six o’clock? I’ll pick you up from the car wash.”

“So you want me to be in my wet, soggy pep squad uniform for this date of ours?” she teased.

“Sure,” he grinned. “Your t-shirt’s white.”

She gapped in shock.

He leant up and kissed her.

“Pick me up at five,” she ordered. “I’ll duck out early and you can drive me over here so I can change.”

“So I still get to see you in a wet t-shirt?”

“I’ll even let you watch me change,” she said saucily.

“Ronnie, you vixen,” he said in mock shock.

She smiled and kissed him sweetly. Her smile suddenly fell.

“What? What is it?”

“Is it wrong for us to be together so soon after Duncan broke up with me?” she asked timidly. “It’s only been a couple of days. What will people say?”

“Who cares what people say?” he said, tightening the grip around her. “You’re mine now.”

“Possessive, aren’t we?”

“I think you knew that already,” he said dryly.

“I did in fact know of your jealous streak. I’ve been told that it’s a good thing,” she said cheekily, “keeps you in line.”

He smirked, “And who told you this fine piece of wisdom?”

She dropped her head and whispered, “Yolanda.”

Logan lifted her chin, so that she could see him. “I would never cheat on you. You have to understand that Lilly and I… our relationship was a joke. She cheated on me constantly and I would get drunk off my ass to make myself feel better. Yolanda… I kissed her because I knew Lilly was planning on breaking up with me again. Might as well give her a reason,” he said bitterly. He hugged her tightly. “I would never cheat on you. You have to believe me.”

She brushed his hair from his forehead and kissed it. “I do. I trust you, Logan. You would never hurt me.”

He let out a sigh of relief, kissing her softly. He felt her shiver, “Are you cold? Maybe we should head back inside.”

“No,” she snuggled closer to him, “not yet. I want to stay here. Just for a little while longer.”

Lilly skipped up to Veronica before class started. “So? How’d it go?”

Veronica studied her best friend, trying to decide how to answer. Her decision was taken from her when Logan wrapped an arm around her waist and kissed her neck.

“Morning, Ronnie,” he greeted.

Lilly squealed happily, clapping her hands. “I knew it. I knew you two loved each other.”

“You’re really okay with this?” Veronica asked, worriedly.

“Of course, it’s why I gave him up. Logan’s been pining for you for years.” Lilly looped her arm through hers as they started walking down the hall. “You can totally have him.”

Logan said dryly, “I’m not a hand me down.”

Veronica soothed him by running her hand down his arm. “Of course not. You had to woo me or I wouldn’t have given you the time of day.”

Lilly giggled. “Veronica Mars, I think Logan’s doing you some good.”

He leant down and whispered in Veronica’s ear, “Don’t you mean seduce you?”

Her face flushed red.

Lilly pouted, “No fair. You’re already sharing secrets.”

“It’s nothing you’d want to know,” Veronica said quickly.

Logan smirked, “Oh, it’s definitely something you’d want to know.”

“Logan!” Veronica said, shocked.

“Let me guess,” Lilly grinned, “It has to do with sex, doesn’t it? Veronica only gets this red when it comes to sex.”

“She’s so cute.” Logan kissed her cheek happily.

“Go away, lover boy,” Lilly shooed him away. “Us girls have to dish.”

“See you at lunch,” Logan kissed Veronica again. “I’m ordering Chinese.”

Veronica watched as Logan walked away, admiring the way his jeans hugged his butt.

Lilly laughed delightedly. “Come on, Veronica. You can ogle your boyfriend later. Right now, I need details.”

Logan was going to join Veronica for lunch when he was suddenly slammed into the lockers. He turned to see who his attacker was. “Duncan, what the hell is wrong with you?”

He responded by plowing his shoulder into Logan’s stomach and slamming him into the lockers again.

The locks digging into his back, Logan shoved Duncan away from him. “I repeat. What the hell is wrong with you?”

Duncan was growling with anger. “You’re dating Veronica?”

“As a matter of fact, I am.” Logan braced himself for Duncan’s next attack. Instead of just taking it this time, he body checked Duncan into the opposite lockers. “You broke up with her, D. I don’t see the problem.”

“She’s mine!” Duncan knocked Logan to the ground and began chocking him. “She’s mine!”

“Duncan!” Lilly cried when she saw her brother throttling Logan. She ran up behind them and wrapped herself around Duncan’s back, trying to pull him off. “Duncan, you can’t do this! Let him go!”

Logan wrapped hands around Duncan’s wrists and pried his hands off his neck. He watched as Lilly’s voice finally broke through Duncan’s anger. His best friend suddenly slumped down in defeat. Logan heard the tail end of Lilly’s whispering.

“You can’t be with her anymore. No one can take care of her like Logan can,” Lilly whispered soothingly to her brother. “She’ll be happy with him and you’ll still be able to see her.”

“She hates me,” Duncan moaned into Lilly’s ear.

“Of course she doesn’t hate you, Donut. How could anyone possibly hate a Kane? We’re the best.” Lilly helped Duncan to his feet. “Come on, I’m going to take you home.”

They didn’t give Logan a backward glance as they headed out of the school.

Veronica joined Logan on the ground. She brushed his forehead. “Are you okay?”

He looked up at her smiling. “Yeah. I’ve been slammed into lockers before.”

Her gentle touch grazed his neck. “I think you’re going to bruise.”

“Don’t worry about it.” He stood, taking her hands and pulling her to her feet. “Let’s go eat.”

Following him, she asked, “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’ve never seen Duncan act that way before,” she said, worried.

Logan touched his neck and whispered grimly, “I have.”

Veronica didn’t see Lilly again until the car wash. “Is Duncan okay?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about him,” Lilly smiled. “He’s been wound so tight since birth, he was bound to have a psychotic episode eventually.”

“That’s not funny, Lilly.”

“Don’t worry, Veronica. Duncan’s fine. Mom’s watching him like a hawk, but he was fine the minute he went home. It was probably all the stress.”

“Because Logan and I are together?”

“No! I talked to him about that. He accepts it. He’s not okay with it just yet, but give him time.”

“You’re sure?”

“Definitely. Don’t worry about him. He’s fine.”

Veronica nodded. She couldn’t help feeling that there was more to Duncan’s behavior than stress, but she’d let it go. She could tell that Lilly didn’t want to talk about it further. Grabbing a sponge, she joined Lilly by the cars.

Veronica hopped into the passenger seat of Logan’s Xterra. Leaning over, she kissed him in greeting, “Hi.”

“Hey,” he smiled. “Does Lilly need a ride?”

“She left already,” she smirked. “Skipped out at four.”

“Let’s go then.”

“So where are you taking me for dinner?” she asked curiously.

He grinned, “It’s a surprise.”

“Not even a hint?”

“How will I know if I’m dressed right?”

“Don’t worry.”

She pouted.

“I’m not telling you.”

“Fine,” she sat back, crossing her arms over her chest. She was silent for a moment. “Dad wants you to come over for dinner tomorrow.”

“He wants to have dinner with you.”

“What? Why?”

“He found out you were my boyfriend.”

“Who told?”

She shrugged. “My dad has his ways.”

“Do I have to?”

“What’s the big deal? You’ve eaten with my dad before.”

“Not as your boyfriend.”

“Don’t worry. You’ll be fine.” She smiled at him.

“What?” he asked when he felt her stare.

“It’s so cute that you’re worried.”

Swinging her around, he pulled her into the pool house, kissing her along the way. “Go change. We’ll be late otherwise.”

She hummed as she kissed him a few more times before taking her bag from him and disappearing into the bathroom.

Logan sat down in front of the television to play on his game station while he waited for her. He wasn’t concentrating on his game. He could hear the water running and kept looking at the bathroom door imagining Veronica naked while she showered. Standing suddenly, he dropped his controller on the sofa and went over to the bathroom door. Pushing it open suddenly, he was treated to the sight of Veronica dripping wet and wrapped in a towel.

She smirked at him. “Too late. Sorry, please try again.”

He returned her smirk with one of his own, “Oh, I definitely will.”

“Now go, unless you want to watch me shave my legs.”

“I’m going to go into the house and change.”

She kissed him, “Come get me in half an hour.”

Dressed in dark grey slacks and white button down shirt, Logan exited the house through the living room. He’d said ‘goodnight’ to his mom, before he left the house. He walked passed the guest house in time to run into his dad.

“Logan,” Aaron said nervously, “how are you doing, son?”

“Dad,” Logan plastered a fake smile on his face, “great. I’m just about to go out for dinner.”

“That’s good, son. I’ll see you later then.”

Logan watched his father make his way to the front of the house, agitated. He stopped and looked at him curiously, before continuing on his way to pick up Veronica. Stepping into the pool house, he asked, “Ronnie, you ready yet?”

“Two seconds,” she called.

“One, two-” he trailed off as the bathroom door opened to reveal the tiny blond wrapped in a strapless deep blue cocktail dress that fell just below her knees.

Playfully, she spun around for him, her long ponytail whipping around with her, and she stopped just in front of him. “How do I look?”

“Beautiful,” he whispered.

She pulled her hair over her shoulder. “I think I’m going to cut my hair short. It takes forever to dry it.”

He eyed her. “How short?”

Tossing her hair back over her shoulder, she asked, “Why? Worried I’ll cut it too short?”

“Worried you’ll cut it all off and I’ll have nothing to hold on to,” he said huskily.

“Hm, none of that,” she grabbed his arm. “We’ll never get to dinner if you start thinking those thoughts.”

“Too late.” But he dutifully lead her around the pool to the driveway, helping her into the car.

Logan was starting the car just as Veronica’s phone rang.

“Hello?” she answered. “Sure, Lilly. I don’t mind. I’ll get Logan to stop by. Bye.”

“What’s going on?” Logan asked.

“Lilly wants me to hide something for her. Do you mind stopping by the Kanes first?”

He checked the clock and shrugged. “We still have time.”

“Thanks,” she kissed his cheek. “Now, drive on.”

“As you wish.”

“She’s not answering,” Veronica said worriedly.

“Are you sure this isn’t one of her jokes?” Logan asked.

“Lilly would never trick me,” she defended. “Maybe she’s in the back.”

They went around the side of the house to the pool.

“Lilly?” Veronica called as they turned the corner to the backyard. She was surprised to see who was there. “Mr. Echolls.”

Logan frowned, “Dad, what are you doing here?”

Aaron smiled and stepped away from Lilly. “I was looking for Jake.”

Lilly grinned and headed over to Veronica. “You look beautiful. Spin for me, darling,” she said in her best upper crust tone.

Complying, Veronica giggled and asked, “Do you approve?”

“Of course,” Lilly laughed, grabbing her hand, “now come with me.”

The girls went into the house, leaving Logan alone with his father.

His hands tucked in his pants’ pockets, Logan studied his father. “So why are you looking for Jake?”

“Just visiting,” Aaron said. “I should be going. I’m supposed to be having dinner with your mother.”

“Right,” Logan said dryly. “Later, dad.”

“Have fun, son,” Aaron grinned at him before leaving.

Logan watched his father walk away.

Veronica and Lilly came back out, giggling the entire way.

“Ready to go?” Logan asked.

The girls exchanged air kisses and Veronica waved ‘bye’ as they left.

Veronica looked up at Logan, “So, what are we having for dinner?”

Dinner was almost over when Veronica’s cell phone rang.

Logan groaned, “Please tell me that that’s not Lilly.”

Checking the caller ID, she frowned, “No, it’s my dad.” Bringing the phone to her ear, she answered, “Hey, dad.”

Logan continued to poke at his dinner while listening to her end of the conversation. He frowned when he saw the distress on her face.

“What? What happened?” Veronica asked. She stared at Logan in confusion. “Dad, please tell me.”

He set his fork down and listened intently to her, watching her every expression, trying to figure out what was wrong.

“Ok, I’ll meet you at the station.” She swallowed, “Love you.”

“What is it?” Logan asked the instant she set her phone down. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know. He wouldn’t say. He just asked us to meet him at the Sheriff’s department.”

“What is this about?”

“It sounded like something happened to Lilly.”

Keith was waiting for his daughter at the station. He sighed in relief to see that she was alright. Pulling her into a hug the instant she was within reach, he led her and Logan into his office.

“Dad, what’s going on?” she asked.

“I’ll explain, but first, I’m going to speak to Logan in the other room. It should only take a few minutes.”

“Why can’t you tell me what’s going on?”

Keith kissed her forehead. “Just stay here, please. I promise I’ll tell you everything.”

She sunk back into his chair and nodded obediently.

Keith gestured for Logan to follow him.

Sitting down on opposite sides of the table, Logan looked at the deputy standing behind Keith. “What’s this about?”

“Logan, I’m going to need you to tell me exactly where you’ve been today,” Keith said calmly.

“What’s going on?”

“Just tell me what you did today and I’ll let you know.” He placed a tape recorder on the table, “Do you mind if I record this?”

He shook his head in confusion. Clearing his throat, he recounted his day. Logan was tempted several times to make snarky remarks, but reigned them in because he realized how serious the situation was. He didn’t know why Keith was asking him all these questions, but he knew it must be important. So Logan told him everything that he could remember. He answered all the probing questions that Keith asked and handed over his cell phone and the receipt for gas that he purchased earlier that day and the bill for the dinner that he’d just come from.

“Thank you, Logan,” Keith smiled.

“Are you going to tell me what this is about?” Logan demanded.

His smile fell. Keith looked at his hands before looking back up at him. “It seems that someone attacked Lilly Kane tonight.”

“What?” Logan asked, “Is she okay?”

“Logan, she’s dead,” Keith said as gently as possible.

He shook his head in denial. “No! No way!”

He pushed himself quickly to his feet, knocking the chair over as he began to pace. He stopped leaning against the wall. “We just saw her.”

“I know.”

Logan whipped towards him. “It had to be my dad.”

Keith said in surprise, “What?”

“They’re sleeping together.”

“Logan, how could you possibly know that?”

He smirked cynically, “I know Lilly. When Veronica and I walked in on them in her backyard, I knew. She looked at him a certain way.”

“Lilly was having an affair with your father.”

“I can’t prove it, but I’m sure.”

“It was him, damn it!”

“I’ll look into it, Logan. I promise.” Keith stood then, “Why don’t you sit and calm down a little? I need to go speak to Veronica right now.”

Logan nodded and slumped down on the floor. He couldn’t believe that Lilly was gone.

Veronica looked up when she heard the door open. “Dad, can you please tell me what’s going on?”

“Soon, honey, I promise.” Keith sat down in the chair opposite hers, Deputy Saks stood behind him. “I need to ask you a few questions. I need to record this, okay honey?”

She nodded knowing that the sooner she answered his questions the sooner she’d find out what happened to Lilly. Veronica recalled her day quite easily – telling him about school, leaving early to man the car wash, Logan picking her up, changing, Lilly’s phone call, and finally stopping at the Kanes’ before heading over to dinner at Luigi’s.

“Did Aaron Echolls seem threatening to you? Out of place?”

She shrugged, “I don’t know. I was surprised to see him there, but he said he was looking for Jake Kane. I didn’t really pay much attention to him. Lilly came up to me and we went to her room.”

“Did she say anything to make you believe that Aaron was bothering her?”

“Not really. She did mention something about finding a number for Access Hollywood, you know, the TV show.”

“Veronica, what exactly did Lilly give you?”

She reached into her purse and handed the items to her dad. “These tapes. I don’t know what’s on them. She made me promise not to watch them.”

Keith noticed that the tapes were simply labeled with dates. “Was it normal for her to give you things to hide?”

“Yeah, I have a whole box of stuff that she didn’t want Celeste finding,” Veronica answered. “But most of her important stuff she hid in her room.”

“Where her mom wouldn’t find it?”

“Yeah.” Veronica looked down at her hands. “Lilly’s dead, isn’t she? You wouldn’t be asking me all these questions if she were alive.” She raised tear filled eyes up to look at her father.

“I’m so sorry, honey.” Keith stood and pulled his daughter into his arms. He looked over at Saks, signaling the deputy to leave while he held his sobbing daughter against him. He turned all his attention on Veronica when the door shut softly behind the deputy.

“How did it happen?” she sniffled.

“Someone hit her in the head really hard,” he said delicately.

“Why would anyone want to hurt Lilly?”

“I don’t know, Veronica, but I promise you that I will find out.”

Needing to return to the Kane mansion, Keith left Logan and Veronica curled together in his office under the watchful eye of Inga.

Through his investigation, he had already determined that Lilly Kane was murdered sometime between six thirty – after Veronica and Logan left for dinner – and eight o’clock – when Jake and Celeste Kane say that they returned from a short stay at the Neptune Grand. Keith knew that something was odd when he’d arrived on scene at the Kane mansion, his gut was telling him that Jake and Celeste were hiding something, but his gut was also telling him that there was something about Logan’s accusations that seemed to fit.

As a precaution, Keith sent a couple deputies over to the Echolls’ estate to question Aaron and Lynn Echolls. He would go over there personally as soon as he was done interviewing the Kanes.

The crime scene investigators had already gone through the Kane house and the coroner would be delivering a report on Lilly Kane’s autopsy in a few hours. Keith stood surveying the scene of the crime. He already suspected that the ash tray that they discovered in the pool was the murder weapon.

So Keith had the murder weapon. What he didn’t have was a suspect… or a motive.

A month later, Aaron Echolls was arrested for the murder of Lilly Kane. The Sheriff’s department was able to gather solid evidence in order to arrest the famous movie star for first degree murder and statutory rape. The tapes that Lilly had given Veronica showed Lilly and Aaron together. This undeniable evidence of their affair and witness statements that placed Aaron at the Kane house that day led to a warrant to search the Echolls’ estate. They’d discovered Aaron’s black t-shirt with Lilly’s blood staining it. They’d also discovered traces of Lilly’s blood on the steering wheel of Aaron’s vehicle. The tapes provided a motive for murder, Aaron had opportunity and blood evidence pointed to him as the killer.

Aaron Echolls was arrested without bail.

Veronica hadn’t seen Logan in weeks. He was trapped at home with his mother and sister due to the fall out of Aaron’s arrest. She’d tried to visit him, but there were too many reporters and paparazzi swarming the mansion for her to get in without being noticed. She had to be content with just talking to him over the phone every night.

Their phone calls lasted for hours. Sometimes they talked about nothing. Sometimes they talked about everything and anything. Sometimes they said nothing, simply laid in their separate beds and listened to each other breath. Sometimes they talked about Lilly and Aaron.

That night, Logan whispered the words that she’d been waiting to hear for weeks. “I’m coming to see you.”

“When?” she asked breathlessly.

“You’re going to Shelley’s party, right?”

“Why can’t you meet me here?”

“Do you really want to be stalked by paparazzi? I’d rather not risk the press finding the two of us alone together.”

She smiled at his concern. “Alright. I’ll see you at Shelley’s.”

Veronica had gotten to the party first. She wandered around, stopping to chat with some of her friends, but continued her search for Logan. She stepped out to the back patio seeing if he was lounging by the pool. Disappointed that he hadn’t arrived yet, she went back inside to find a drink.

Taking a drink from the buffet table, Veronica settled down on a lawn chair, sipping her coke, waiting for Logan. She smiled when he finally found her.

Logan laid down beside her. “Hey, Ronnie. I missed you.” He wrapped his hand around the back of her neck, pulling her into a kiss.

“I missed you.” She whispered against his lips.

They made out for a few more minutes, before Logan broke away and just looked at her. He memorized her features, drawing in every detail to last him until the next time he could see her again. His hand reached up and tangled with her shortened locks. “You cut your hair.” His hands brushed the bangs falling over her forehead aside.

“I told you I would,” she leaned back against his arm.

“You’re beautiful.”

“So you won’t mind being seen with me?” she teased.

He smirked, “You can take the paper bag off you head the next time we’re out in public.”

She giggled.

He ducked down and took over her lips again.

They were so lost in each other, they didn’t notice when Dick, Casey, Luke and Sean picked up the lawn chair and tossed them both into the pool.

Logan’s hold tightened around Veronica’s waist, he pulled her to the surface of the water, both sputtering for air. Logan glared at the four boys. “What the hell, man?”

“Looked pretty hot and heavy,” Dick wiggled his eyebrows.

Luke giggled, “We thought you needed to cool down.”

The guys cackled as they walked off, leaving the pair to float alone in the pool.

Logan held her tightly against him when he noticed how see through her white dress had become. “Idiots,” he mumbled.

Veronica shivered. “Do you think we could maybe move to the hot tub? I doubt anyone’s going to get us some dry clothes.”

“They’re all too busy getting drunk on free booze.” Logan swam them over to the steps of the pool. They quickly relocated to the hot tub, but not before Veronica took off her dress, leaving her in her underwear.

At Logan’s look, she shrugged, “Everyone’s inside. I think I saw Shelley making out with Madison.”

Frowning, he stripped down to his boxers and settled down into the hot tub, dragging Veronica down to straddle his lap. He ground up against her.

“Logan,” she admonished, “I’m not having sex with you in Shelley’s hot tub.”

“Why not?” he grinned, “Everyone’s inside.”

Before she could protest further, he had already managed to slip inside her. “If someone catches us…” her threat trailed off as he thrust up hard into her.

“No one will catch us. The draw of some girl-on-girl action will keep all the boys occupied for hours.”

She hissed in pleasure. “And the girls?”

“Will be too busy trying not to watch.”

Veronica sighed and allowed herself to yield to his attentions. She hugged him tight, “I missed you so much, Logan.”

“It’ll all be over soon,” he swore. “Then we can be together.”

“Promise?” She gasped as he hit a particularly sensitive spot.

Logan kissed her neck and held her tight as he proceeded to satisfy his craving for her. “I promise.”
